10 Tips/Ideas for GREAT Vacation Photos
Take a photo of....
  • the traveling, itself... take a few shots of and from the car, bus, train, plane or ship!
  • the local food, especially if it's new, different, perhaps even exotic
  • things you are particularly drawn to, perhaps because of their unique-ness, character, or abundance... you can build a fun, little "theme" into the trip by concentrating on these things (be it cool signs, doors, gates, mailboxes, what-have-you)
  • the local people... include them in street scenes and perhaps even take a few close-up portraits (with their permission, of course)
Look for...
  • different perspectives of a sight, monument, landscape, or structure - don't simply take photos "straight on" or "in front of"... move around, get up, get down, look left, look right, find some different angles
  • interesting details (get up close!)
  • and then avoid distracting elements (cars, telephone wires, trash cans, etc. in the background) when possible
Be sure to...
  • mix it up... shoot some scenery, landscapes, buildings with AND without your family and/or friends
  • include yourself in some of the photos (take a small tripod or ask someone in the area to take a couple of shots)
  • get the photos OUT of your camera when you return home and don't just transfer them to your computer... pick out the best ones to print - perhaps even create a collage or book!
(By the way, you can always contact LABphotography if you get some really great shots and would like help creating and printing that collage or book... or simply to obtain a high-quality wall portrait!)
